What gets accelerated?
FastWeb employs state of the art industry-leading compression, optimization and acceleration techniques perfected to fetch information from the Internet many times faster, in order to speed up the delivery of Web pages, emails and FTP content to your computer. Amazingly with FastWeb, you get to browse the Internet at speeds that are up to seven times faster than your regular dial-up connection. The online content that the FastWeb service accelerates is as follows:
- Web browsing and Web mail (including attachments!)
- Graphics including JPEG, GIF, and PNG images
- Macromedia Flash and Animated GIF
- E-mail - SMTP, POP, IMAP (including attachments!)
- FTP Content
What will not be accelerated?
Although FastWeb is able to compress, optimize and accelerate many different types of online data, there are a few data types which cannot be accelerated because they are already pre-compressed and therefore can not be reduced any further, such as:
- Streaming media, audio and video files
- Secure pages, such as those used for online banking and credit card forms
How does it work?
With traditional dial-up methods, the text and graphics that make up Web pages get sent from the server to you over your phone line. Because of the large amount of data required to be sent, this process can be painfully slow. FastWeb compresses, optimizes and accelerates this data using a proprietary technology, and sends it over your existing dialup phone line. This compression process allows a smaller amount of data to be sent. As an added download time reducer, FastWeb stores elements of the Web sites you visit frequently, eliminating the need to download them every time you visit these sites. FastWeb makes the download time of your Web pages and your online experience that much faster.
